The Village of Lake Odessa, Michigan is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Full Time Police Officer. Lake Odessa is in southern Ionia County with a population of 2,034 residents. Prior years of full-time service may transfer toward the current pay scale.

Duties include, but are not limited to, patrolling village streets, parks, commercial and residential areas. Officers shall preserve the peace and enforce the law, control vehicular traffic, prevent or detect and investigate misconduct involving misdemeanors, felonies, and other law violations, obtain evidence and compile information regarding crimes, prepare cases for filing of charges, testify in court, and carry out duties in conformance with Federal, State, Village ordinances, and departmental policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Associates degree in criminal justice or a related field with a bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Must be licensed or licensable as a police officer by MCOLES.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and be 21 years or older at the time of employment.
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid State driver's license.
  • No felony convictions and/or disqualifying criminal histories.
  • Must be of good moral character.
  • Ability to successfully complete all phases of the selection process.
  • Ability to learn the applicable laws, ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

Examination Process:

The results at each step in the application process will determine eligibility for continuation to subsequent steps. The process will include resume review, oral interview, background investigation, psychological evaluation, medical examination, and drug screen.
