The Lake Odessa DDA is looking for a few green thumbs!

Outdoor flowerpot

As the old saying goes, "Many hands make light work."  One of the many pleasantries that make Lake Odessa's downtown such an appealing place to visit during the summer months is the flower planters that adorn the downtown sidewalks and storefronts.

Since 2007, the keys to keeping our downtown flowers fresh and vibrant have been the dedicated volunteers who freely donate their time to provide daily watering and an occasional fertilizing.  Without everyone pitching in and lending a hand, our downtown flower program simply can't exist.

So here's how the program works:   The Village of Lake Odessa provides a tractor and tank, water, fuel and plants (from Duwayne's Greenhouse), and the Village's Public Works Department provides the proper equipment maintenance throughout the season.   The Village's Downtown Development Authority coordinates business owners and community volunteers who sign up for 3- or 4 day shifts, starting with planting right before Memorial Day and ending sometime around the late September to mid-October.  Watering is easiest when done by two people at a time.

Downtown business owners who have flower planters at their business location are eligible to have their flowers watered throughout the entire season, provided they volunteer to work at least one shift.
