The Village President, the Honorable Karen L. Banks, welcomes you to the Village of Lake Odessa's website. We hope that you find this site informative, interactive, and one that will help to answer any questions that you may have about our community. Please note that this is a brand new website - new information is being added daily, kinks are being worked out, and we appreciate any feedback that you may have.
Lake Odessa is a quaint, friendly community situated between Lansing and Grand Rapids. We are a village that values our past, cherishes our present, and works together to thoughtfully plan for the future. Located on the shores of Jordan Lake, Lake Odessa is a community with about 2,000 residents.
Lake Odessa is a Village -- the difference between a Village and a City can be explained this way:
The basic difference between a city and a village is that whenever and wherever an area is incorporated as a village, it stays within the township. The villagers participate in township affairs and pay township taxes in addition to having their own village government. Incorporation as a city, however, removes an area from township government. City dwellers participate in county elections and pay county taxes as do villagers but are removed from township units.
The Village of Lake Odessa works closely with Odessa Township -- the township conducts elections, assesses properties, and provides fire services to the Village.
The Village of Lake Odessa boasts a healthy mix of year-round residences, vacation homes, owner-operated businesses, healthy industry, and excellent schools.
Village staff is here to help and serve the people of Lake Odessa -- it is our goal to provide excellent and efficient service to the community; to utilize funds judicially and efficiently; and to work with residents and business owners to make our community better every day!
