Reserve Police Officer Program

The Lake Odessa Police Department utilizes volunteer Reserve Police Officers in order to augment its effectiveness and capabilities.  

The primary function of a Reserve Police Officer is to serve as the second officer in the patrol car, primarily during weekends and evenings, and provide back-up for regular police officers.  Reserve Police Officers are also responsible for providing the department with extra personnel who can quickly be deployed during critical incidents and other situations that require more officers than would otherwise normally be available.  For example, Reserve Police Officers will assist with traffic and crowd control during parades and special events such as the Lake Odessa Fair. 

Reserve Police Officers are not paid.  However, they donate their time and energy because they are interested in helping make a difference.  Reserve Police Officers not only take time away from being with their family to serve the citizens of this community, they also put their lives on the line to do so.  For many years, Reserve Police Officers have proven to be an indispensable asset to this department.  The department and the citizens of the Village of Lake Odessa are therefore grateful to these dedicated volunteers and all they have done and continue to do to help keep their "friendly port" safe and secure.

Interested Volunteers

All applicants for the position of Reserve Police Officer must meet strict requirements, undergo a thorough background investigation, and pass physical and psychological examinations.  Reserve Police Officers continually receive training and are required to meet the same proficiency standards as regular police officers in the use of lethal and non-lethal force.  Reserve Police Officers are required to serve a minimum number of hours each month, attend training, and assist with special events throughout the year.
